Anita M. (Poirier) Johnson, 95, of Gardner, died peacefully, Tuesday, December 15, 2020, in Gardner Rehabilitation and Nursing Home, Gardner, after a brief illness.
Born in Rogersville, New Brunswick, Canada, on November 1, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Narcisse and Emma (Hebert) Poirier. Anita was a dietary aide employed by Heywood Hospital of Gardner for six years until her retirement in 1989. She was previously employed as a stitcher at R. Smith Furniture.
Anita was a parishioner of Annunciation Parish/ Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner, where she was a member of its Ladies of Ste. Anne Society. She was a member of the Gardner Golden Agers and the Gardner Chapter of AARP. Anita was a devote Catholic and found great serenity in her faith. In her free time, she loved to sew. But the time that she truly cherished the most was spent with her family.
Anita is survived by her daughter, Jocelyn M. Baker and her husband Stephen of Orange; a son, Raymond J. Johnson of Gardner; a brother, Louis Poirier of Gardner; a sister, Bertha Leonard of Gardner; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband Armand P. Johnson, who died in 1983; three sisters, Marie Thibeau, Beatrice Richard, and Flora Poirier; and two brothers, Albert and Eric Poirier.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 21, 2020, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA 01440. Burial will be held at Notre Dame Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA, at a later date.
