Alvin A. Richard

Alvin Amos Richard, 80, of 17 Nichols St., Gardner, died Saturday, July 9th in Legend Nursing Home, Gardner, after a short illness, surrounded by his family.
Born in Gardner on August 19, 1930, he was the son of Mark M. and Adele C. (Cormier) Richard.
Alvin was an extractor employed by H & R 1871 Mfg. Co. of Gardner for 20 years, retiring in 2006.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church.
He spent his spare time working on his car, watching the Catholic Mass on television, also watching "The Andy Griffith Show." He had a keen interest in politics and enjoyed working.
Alvin was a Korean War US Air Force Veteran and received the National Defense Medal.
His wife, Thelma May (Durling) Richard died in 1984.
He leaves a son, Ivan M. Richard of West Palm Beach, FL; 3 daughters, Marinda Ferguson of Clewiston, FL, Margaret Provencher and her husband George of Sebring, FL, Katherine Wojdak and her husband Richard of Winchendon; a stepdaughter, Vera Dufault and her husband Norman of Gardner; 1 sister, Juliette Bennett of Fitchburg; 9 grandchildren, Brandon Ferguson, Jimmie Borey III, Michelle and Eddie Midcap, Crystal, and Shannon Ferguson, Shawn Provencher, John R. Ferguson, and Marcy Dufault; several greatgrandchildren; 1 niece and godchild, Deborah Borey, several nephews and cousins. He also leaves a very good friend, Daniel Robinson of Gardner. He was predeceased by a son, Mark Richard and a sister, Jeannine Borey.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 13th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Tuesday, July 12th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Gardner Visiting Nursing Assn., Hospice Program, 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner, MA 01440 or to Legend Nursing Home, Activity Fund, 59 Eastwood Circle, Gardner, MA 01440.
