Alvin M. LeBlanc, 74, of 164C Blanchard Street, Gardner, died Sunday, June 20th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, following a brief illness with cancer.
Alvin was born in Gardner on October 25, 1935, the son of the late Melas and Marie (Cormier) LeBlanc.
Prior to retiring, Alvin was employed by Tobins Catering in Needham for 14 years, as a cook. He was previously owner/operator of Village Spa Restaurant in Gardner for several years, and was employed by General Automotive of Gardner for 18 years.
Alvin was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner, and the V.W.F. Ovila Case, Post 905 of Gardner.
He enjoyed traveling to Old Orchard Beach in Maine, and especially loved walking on the beach. He also enjoyed going on cruises. Alvin's hobbies included scuba diving, collecting beach rocks and silver coins, watching cooking shows on television and scuba diving. He enjoyed carving wood, and made walking canes. Alvin liked to spend time sitting on his porch, and each day he would hang the U.S. Flag outside of his home.
Alvin was a United States Korean War Army Veteran, and received the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.
Alvin leaves one son, Marc P. LeBlanc and his wife Martina of Gardner; one daughter, Sandra A. Hurley and her husband Andrew of Beverly; one sister, Gloria Bastarache and her husband Joseph of Baldwinville; three grandchildren, Derek Hurley, Bethany Hurley and Stephanie Ball; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves his former wife, Carol A. (Kucinskas) LeBlanc of Gardner. Alvin was predeceased by three brothers, Raymond (Tibbs) LeBlanc, Paul LeBlanc and Donald LeBlanc.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, June 28th at 1:30 p.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
