Althea E."Thea" Assem

Althea E. "Thea" (Johnson) Assem, 55, of 124 Manca Drive, Gardner, died peacefully surrounded by her family Monday, May 24th in UMass Memorial Medical Center, 55 Lake Ave North, Worcester, following a long struggle with liver disease.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on February 28, 1955, she was the daughter of the late Wendell H. and Enid (Lyn) Johnson.

Prior to retiring in 2008, Althea was employed by H & R 1871 of Gardner as an assembler. She was previously employed by the Internal Revenue Service of Fitchburg.

Althea received a degree in Computer Graphic Design from Mount Wachusett Community College, Gardner in 1998.

She was a member of Cornerstone Church, Gardner.

Althea was a United States Army Veteran.

Althea enjoyed drawing, painting and photography. She was a talented artist, who shared her artwork with many.

Althea is survived by three sons, Curtis Johnson, Erik M. Johnson and Marcus E. Assem all of Gardner; two daughters, Kimberly M. Johnson of Atlanta, GA and Lindsey N. Assem of Gardner; one brother, Ernest Johnson of Atlanta; one sister, Lorraine M. Nairne of Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren, Khalil Beauregard, Tsara LeBlanc, Trevon LeBlanc and Jasenya L. Oyola; three aunts, Joyce Logan, Annette Logan and Lola Harris; one uncle, Royston Logan and his wife Ruby; four nieces, three nephews and several cousins.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 4th at 12:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.

A calling hour in the funeral home will be Friday, June 4th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
