Alphonse Noel Maillet

Alphonse Noel Maillet, 84, of 103 Ash Street, Gardner died peacefully Wednesday, June 12, 2013 in his residence surrounded by family, following a long illness.
Born in Gardner on December 30, 1928, he was the son of the late Odilon and Laura (Cormier) Maillet.
Alphonse was employed by C & W Fabricating of Gardner as a welder for 21 years, retiring in 1997. He also worked part time as a grounds keeper for Leblanc's Farm on Green Street in Gardner.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner and its League of Sacred Heart Society Alphonse volunteered for many years at the church, the church cemetery and at the annual Holy Rosary Bazaar.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, motorcycle riding, clam digging in Canada and maple sugaring and visiting maple sugaring houses in Vermont. He loved to play the harmonica and listen to Country music. Alphonse also loved cutting down trees. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox. Alphonse most enjoyed spending time with his family. Besides providing for his own eleven children, he collected cans for many years to raise money to sponsor a child through the "Feed the Children" program.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Rita (LeBlanc) Maillet of Gardner; six sons, George Maillet and his companion Michelle Lawrence of Dracut, Rene Maillet and his wife Cindy of Winchendon, Maurice Maillet and his wife Joanne of Oxford, Claude Maillet and his wife Paula of Gardner, Jean Maillet of Gardner and Paul Maillet and his wife Jill of Winchendon; four daughters, Janice Lafferty and her husband John of Ashburnham, Irene Stacy and her husband Richard of Boca Raton, FL, Leonie Emma and her husband Joseph of Templeton and Ginette Busack and her husband Michael of Templeton; five brothers, George Maillet and his wife Rita of Quebec, Canada, Leo Maillet and his wife Bernice of Daytona Beach, FL, Oscar Maillet and his wife Lucille of Gardner and North Port, FL, Romeo Maillet and his wife Gloria of St. Marie, N.B. Canada and Edward Maillet of Gardner; two sisters, Irma Pierce of Chattanooga, TN, Sister Doris Maillet of the Sisters of Sacred Heart of Moncton, N.B. Canada; one brother-in-law, Roger Barrieault of Gardner; twenty three grandchildren, Michael O'Rourke, Wyatt, Ashley and Liam Lafferty, Mathew Stacy, Erin Heironimus, Shannon Burgess, Kierstin Armour, Jade Rowe, Wade Maillet, Hali Maillet, Dylyn Maillet, Dustin Maillet, Chelsea Maillet, Nathan Maillet, Curtis and Tyler Emma, Michael and Cameron Busack, Robert Maillet, Javin Maillet, Payton Maillet and Olivia Maillet; sixteen great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son Robert Maillet who died in 1988; and by one brother, Ulysse Maillet; and one sister, Irene Barrieault.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 15th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours will be Friday, June 14th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
