Alonzo L. McGrath, 91, of Gardner, formerly of Coleman Street, died peacefully Tuesday, July 19, 2016 in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home of Gardner, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.
Born in St. Isidore, N.B. Canada on February 2, 1925, he was the son of the late Willie and Emma (Hache) McGraw.
Alonzo was a carpenter employed by several local contractors, retiring in 1985. Prior to moving to the United States, he worked in various lumber camps and sawmills while living in Canada.
He was a member of Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner.
Alonzo enjoyed woodworking and loved helping family members with renovations. He also enjoyed sketching horses. Alonzo enjoyed visiting relatives in Canada and Florida, and treasured spending time with his family.
He was a member of the Carpenters Union, Local 107 of Worcester and the Acadien Social Club of Gardner.
Alonzo was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Dora M. (LeBlanc) McGrath, who died in 2010.
He leaves one son, Roger W. McGrath of Winchendon; two daughters, Doris M. Alexander and her husband Frank of Port Orange, FL and Lisa A. Dubois and her husband Gordon of Gardner; a special daughter-in-law, Linda (Gallant) (McGrath) Rahaim and her husband Donald of Templeton; three brothers, Gilles McGrath and his wife Oriza of Leominster, Andre McGraw of N.B. Canada and Euclid McGrath and his wife Anne Marie of N.B. Canada; four sisters, Lillian Babineau and her husband Napoleon of Westford, Bertha Sivret, Julianne Savoie, Andrea Savoie and her husband Edward all of Canada; ten grandchildren, Heather Alexander, Krista Shattes, Tammy Nicholas, Jodi Sund, Eric McGrath, Jenna McGrath, Scott McGrath, Shawn McGrath, Jada Dubois and Malik Dubois; nine great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one son, Ronald J. McGrath; and by his sister Imelda Hache.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 25th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, July 24th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
