Alma E. (Gallant) Melanson, 91, of Gardner, died peacefully Friday, February 9, 2018 in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home of Gardner, following a brief illness.
Alma was born in Fitchburg on April 13, 1926, the daughter of the late Albert and Vitalinne (Melanson) Gallant.
She was employed by Rutland State Hospital as a nursing attendant for 20 years, retiring in 1987.
Alma was a member of Holy Spirit Church of Gardner.
She enjoyed knitting, playing cards and reading. Alma also enjoyed trips to Foxwoods, trips to New Brunswick, Canada and going out to dinner. She loved spending time with her family, and she will always be remembered for her quick wit.
Alma leaves one brother, Yvon Gallant and his wife Rollande of Fitchburg; one sister, Gloria Cormier of Gardner; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Alcide J. Melanson who died in 1966; her son, Joseph C. Melanson who died in 1998; three brothers, Ephrem Gallant, Ronald Gallant and Camille Gallant; and by one sister, Lillian Gallant.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 3rd at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery of Fitchburg.
There are no calling hours. Family and friends are asked to report directly to the church the morning of services.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
