Allen T. Goguen, 76, of Gardner, passed away peacefully at home, Friday, November 24, 2023.
Born in Gardner on February 18, 1947, he was the son of the late Joseph W. and Jennie (Serwatka) Goguen. Allen graduated from Gardner High School in 1965. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1969 and was awarded a Master of Arts Degree in History in 1973, both from Assumption College. Allen was a Middle School History Teacher employed by Gardner Public Schools for 35 years and worked cutting grass at the Gardner Municipal Golf Course for many years. He was a beloved coach of freshman basketball, girls middle school basketball, boys and girls middle school cross country, and high school golf.
Allen was active within the Gardner community, serving on the GFA Federal Credit Union Board of Directors, the Knowlton Foundation, the Chair City Club, and was a trustee of the Gardner Museum. He was also a member of the South Gardner Golf Association, the Polish American Citizens Club, and served on the Gardner Golf Commission.
Allen was a member of the Central Mass. Striders, completing 10 marathons, including the Boston Marathon. He was an avid golfer, captaining the Gardner High School team and playing for Assumption College. Allen won the Delay Memorial and the GMGC Club Championship in 1968. He went on to win the Commissioners’ Cup and won the South Gardner Golf League Championship multiple times with many different partners – all with the same putter from high school! Allen treasured his time with the Wednesday Golf “Support” Group – who are more than just a group of golfers. He enjoyed walking his dog Stormie, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
