Alfred Leger, 99, of Gardner, died peacefully Monday, January 27, 2025, in his home surrounded by his family after an illness.
Born in Barachois, New Brunswick, Canada, on September 26, 1925, he was the son of the late Calixte and Elizabeth (Belliveau) Leger. He immigrated to the United States in 1960. Alfred was laborer employed by Van Huffel of Gardner for many years until his retirement. He was previously employed by Curtis Lumber of Hubbardston and C.H. Hartshorn of Gardner.
Alfred was a parishioner of Annunciation Parish of Gardner, practicing at its Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. He loved to play cards with family and friends, work in his gardens and watch television, especially his favorite westerns. He and his wife, Aline, enjoyed making French- Acadien food during the holiday season, especially poutine and rappeé, to share with family and friends. Alfred's greatest joy was his family, treasuring all the special memories gained throughout the years.
Alfred is survived by his wife of 72 years, Aline M. (Richard) Leger of Gardner; three sons, Donald Leger and his wife Laurie of Orange, John Leger and his wife Jean of Gardner and Paul Leger of Gardner; a daughter, Maria Dube and her husband Paul of Gardner; five grandchildren, Donna Flemming of Barre, Daniel Leger and his significant other Tanya of Notre Dame, NB, Canada, Jodi Wilder and her husband Matthew of Westminster, Shaun Dube and his wife Alicia of Templeton, and Kristina Gallant and her husband Bruce of Winchendon; great-grandchildren, Jamie, Riley, Addison, Tanner, Aubree, Addysen, Ella, Beckett, Charlie, Brock, Kendall; great-great-grandchild, Nori; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his eight siblings, Adrice, Anna, Alvenie, Amedee, Delphine, Yvonne, Yvon, and Camille
Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
