Alfred C. "Freddy" Ducharme, 69, of 14 Underwood Road, Hubbardston died Saturday, September 8, 2012 in UMass Memorial Medical Center, 55 Lake Ave North, Worcester from complications of an automobile accident in Gardner on September 1st.
Alfred was born in Gardner on August 6, 1943, the son of the late Louis J. and Francois (Cavalier) Ducharme.
He was a life-long resident of Gardner, and attended Our Lady of the Holy Rosary School and Gardner High School.
Alfred was a United States Vietnam War Amy Veteran and received the National Defense Service Medal.
He was employed in the Maintenance Department of Mount Wachusett Community College of Gardner for 30 years, retiring in 2000. He was previously employed by Gem Crib and Gardner State Hospital.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Gardner.
Alfred was a Lifetime Member of the Polish American Citizens Club of Gardner, and previously served on the Board of Directors. He was also a Lifetime Member of the Gardner Deer Club, where he enjoyed participating in the children's Halloween parties as Papa Smurf and the children's Christmas parties as Santa Claus.
He enjoyed playing cribbage and pitch, and in his earlier years softball. He was a sports fanatic, who enjoyed watching the New England teams on television. His most special times were those spent with his family.
Alfred leaves his wife of 41 years, Annette E. (Budzinski) Ducharme of Hubbardston; one son, David J. Ducharme and his wife Larisa of North Chelmsford; one daughter, Christine M. Morse and her husband Timothy of Holiday, FL; three brothers, Louis Ducharme of Gardner, Paul Ducharme of Gardner and Roger Ducharme of Leominster; four grandchildren, Morgan F. Morse, Abigayle E. Morse, Christopher D. Ducharme, Fiona L. Ducharme; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his infant grandson, Jonathan R. Morse.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, September 12th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant Street, Gardner. Burial will be held at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be Tuesday, September 11th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
