Albina T"Bina" Martin

Albina T. "Bina" (Robichaud) Martin, 96, of 50 Pine Street, Gardner, died peacefully Saturday, July 5, 2014 in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner, following a brief illness.
She was born in Rumford, Maine on June 15, 1918, the daughter of the late Timothee O. and Marie E. (Sivret) Robichaud.
She graduated from St. John the Baptist School of Rumford, Maine, and later graduated from Gardner State Hospital School of Psychiatric Nursing with the Class of 1939.
Albina was an Occupational Therapist at the former Gardner State Hospital, and also in the Psychiatric Unit at the former Rutland Heights State Hospital of Rutland. She retired in 1978, after 14 years of employment with the State Department of Mental Health. Albina was an talented seamstress who did alterations for most of the clothing stores in Gardner. She taught sewing in adult evening classes in Gardner, was an instructor of sewing in the Sheltered Work Shop at the former Gardner State Hospital.
Albina was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner and its' Ladies of Ste. Anne Society, where she served as past president. She volunteered for many years at the annual Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Bazaar.
Albina enjoyed sewing, needlepoint and Acadien cooking. She represented the City of Gardner at Folklife Festival held at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. in July of 1988 where she demonstrated Acadien cooking, and demonstrated again in 1989 in Holyoke at the State Park.
Albina was predeceased by her husband, Arsene R. Martin, who died in 1997.
She leaves two sons, Robert L. Martin and his significant other Lillian Nichols of Denver, CO and Roger M. Martin of Dover, NH; four daughters, Rita Johnson and her husband Edmond of Gardner, Rae-Anne Richard of Gardner, Rachael Hicks and her husband Errol of Mashpee and Rosemarie Tourigny and her husband Claude of Estero, FL; daughter-in-law Pauline Martin of Baldwinville; one brother, Ludger A. Robichaud and his wife Lorraine of Gardner; one sister, Rita Lahikainen of Gardner; sixteen grandchildren, thirty five great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers, Louis A. and Charles J. Robichaud; granddaughter, Danielle Martin; and son-in-law Scott Richard.
Funeral Services will held Thursday, July 10th at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 9th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
