Albert J. Poirier, 89, of 59 Eastwood Circle and formerly of 158 Logan St., Gardner, where he lived for 28 years, died peacefully Tuesday, March 31st in the Leo P. LaChance Center for Rehabilitation & Nursing, Gardner.
Born in Rogersville, NB, Canada on January 16, 1920, he was the son of Narcisse and Emma (Hebert) Poirier.
He was employed at Maki Corporation of Gardner for several years and was previously a self-employed carpenter.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church.
Mr. Poirier was a former member of the Acadien Social Club and the Beagle Club. He was a hard worker who enjoyed hunting and being in the outdoors. Albert was a fan of television, especially Hogan's Heroes and Bonanza and spent much of his time playing cards, particularly Solitaire.
His wife of 52 years, Theresa R. (Vautour) Poirier, died in 1994.
He leaves five sons, John J. Poirier and his wife Jacqueline, Archie J. Poirier, Raymond J. Poirier, Louis J. Poirier and his wife Sarah all of Royalston, Paul J. Poirier and his wife Diane of Orange; 1 daughter, Monique B. Poirier of Royalston; 1 brother, Louis Poirier of Grafton; 5 sisters, Beatrice Richard of Rogersville, NB, Canada, Marie Thibeau, Flora Poirier, Anita Johnson and Bertha Leonard all of Gardner; 15 grandchildren, Michael, Marc, Rebecca, Jacob, Michelle, Kori, David Poirier, Jamie Rhodes, Nicole Rheault, Michael, James, Gary, Christopher Hastings, Candace Puuttinen, and Melissa Cormier; 18 great-grrandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Hector J. Poirier who died in 1990.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 4th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday, April 3rd from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
