Abel J. "Pete" Maillet, 75, of 59 Eastwood Circle, Gardner, died Friday, December 3rd in Leo P. LaChance Center for Rehabilitation & Nursing, Gardner, following an illness.
Born in Gardner on January 13, 1929, he was the son of Adolphe and Marie B. (LeBlanc) Maillet.
He was a woodworker employed by various local factories.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. He was a member of V.F.W. Ovila Case Post 905 of Gardner. He enjoyed country music and at one time had his own country band. He enjoyed singing and won 2nd prize during an appearance on "Community Auditions" in 1949.
Mr. Maillet was a U.S. Korean War Veteran and received the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, UN Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
He leaves his wife of 9 years, Cynthia A. (Astromowicz) Maillet of Gardner; 1 son, Larry Maillet of Fitchburg; his mother-in-law, Lucille (Pelletier) Astramowicz of Gardner; 3 brothers, Albert J., Omer J., and Donald J. Maillet all of Gardner; 2 sisters, Helen C. Maillet and Lauretta M. Maillet both of Gardner; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Albanie Maillet of Gardner who died in 1996 and a sister, Cecile Tarmasewicz of Gardner who died in 2004.
All services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon at a later date.
